THE DUAL IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY: POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE
Humans were created perfectly compared to other living beings. The most striking thing is that the human brain is equipped with the power of thought to make breakthroughs in innovation.
In human innovation, of course, it is based on technological capability. The word "technology" comes from Greek: _techne_ and _logos_, which literally means art or skill and knowledge. However, broadly speaking, technology is a method, system, or body of knowledge used to create tools, services, and products. The goal is to make work easier, lighter, solve problems, and ultimately increase human comfort.
In modern human life, it turns out that technology can be classified into two opposite things:
1. Positive
2. Negative
POSITIVE IMPACTS OF TECHNOLOGY
Positive technology aims primarily to make it easier to fulfill human primary and secondary needs: food, clothing, and shelter, which are daily necessities.
Examples:
- Agriculture: Tractors, plows, diesel water pumps for farming.
- Construction: Cranes for lifting materials for high-rise buildings, bore piles used for drilling soil for foundation piles.
- Industry : Computers with smart programming to help complete work. Textile industry machines that can produce clothing on a large scale. In the past, people made clothes with manual weaving and could not keep up with clothing demand due to population growth.
- Transportation : Cars, motorcycles, ships, and airplanes are modes of transportation that allow people to travel long distances in a shorter time and with less fatigue compared to walking.
- Communication : Devices like mobile phones are used to facilitate business relationships.
And there are still many more technologies that can be created for positive and beneficial purposes.
NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF TECHNOLOGY
It turns out that technological advancement also produces negative impacts, which can actually lead humans to commit crimes and sins.
Under the pretext of self-defense when attacked by enemies, humans create advanced weapons and fighter jets that can kill enemies en masse and easily. The goal is to be the winner so the enemy is afraid. However, the reality is that after having advanced weapons, they are not used for defense. Instead, driven by arrogance for being able to create advanced weapons and wanting to test their sophistication, they launch attacks on others, such as seizing the territory of other countries. Of course, those whose territory is attacked will fight back, and then war occurs, causing many casualties among innocent people.
The Internet : With the internet and sophisticated communication devices like mobile phones, the world is now "the size of a pocket." Because phones can be carried everywhere in a pocket, it is now very easy to access information from all over the world. Unfortunately, a lot of negative information can be accessed by anyone regardless of age group.
Not to mention the sophistication of applications that can be used to commit fraud. What is worse is the emergence of AI (Artificial Intelligence). Initially, this sophistication was intended to make things easier, more efficient, and practical to support completing work. In reality, it is used for negative things like fraud.
This technology clearly encourages people to lie because they can create videos of events that never actually happened. For fraud, scammers can even create videos of famous figures or public figures seemingly giving away money or holding giveaways, when in fact it is a trap to deceive victims.
From the discussion above, there are still many aspects of life that are supported by technology. Indeed, with technology, things that were once impossible can become possible. However, along with these negatives, it can push humans to always commit sins. In the end, after leaving this world, there will be a reckoning for one's deeds. Because of technology, people can become inhabitants of hell.
Therefore, we believe that God giving intelligence to humans is a scenario to select humans who will be used to fill hell.
In the world of warfare, technology is also used for propaganda, to break morale, and can even be used to slander opponents so that other parties will also hate and corner them.
